Search full text in any document

Full text search has been enabled to the file collaboration service we offer at Batipi.  As an example you may not remember the title of a particular file, however, you can remember a phrase or the general topic.  With the search full-text feature, you will save allot of time from guessing what the file was called, or browsing through hundreds, or potentially thousands of your files.

Here's what the VP of Box Engineering Sam Ghods had to say about this new enhancement:

"Full-text search gives a business tremendous insight into their content. As users of existing desktop full-text search products are aware, once you get a taste of full-text search, it’s hard to go back. You are now able to find files not just by the title or description, but by whatever you may recall about the content of the file itself. Since we index all Office formats (including the new docx, xlsx and pptx formats), PDF’s, CSV’s and more, nearly all your business documents are readily searchable. Having this kind of functionality across your entire business is a very powerful tool to help business get more done faster, which is all we’re about here at Box."

The following screen shot, shows how search results will now display in document text that relates to your search:

Initially, the full text search feature will cover all popular file formats, such as, Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, PDF's, TXT, CSV files, Box Web Documents.

One of the distinct advantages is that you can also allow any partners, consultants or clients that you have shared folders with, to search the entire full text of any files you have stored in the particular folder.  Other tools like desktop search, are limited to "your desktop", and even powerful search appliances like the Google Search Appliance, restrict searches to users within your company network.

New features for Box!

Box has updated some new features in their document collaboration service.

Web Documents

Create a simple wiki-like document right from a Box folder. Create task lists, share research, write meeting notes, and draft documentation - all easily shared with collaborators or via a link. To create a webdoc, just look for the "New Web Doc" button.

Upload Widget

Accept uploads from your website.  Put the new Upload Widget on your website, blog or wiki to make it easy for anyone to upload and share their files with you. Perfect for competition submissions or for bid management.

Faster search

We've better optimized search over your file names, folders, and descriptions so you should see a noticeable improvement - especially for those of you with lots of files.

For more information on file collaboration features, or schedule a demo, please contact us at Batipi.

Using OpenBox service in your company

The document collaboration service we promote at Batipi is Box.  As a partner, they make it really easy for us to implement this service in your corporate environment, due to the advanced and open api's available.  There is also a host of 3rd party applications that are already integrated, allowing you to take action like sending a fax, or editing your document online.

What is OpenBox Service?

OpenBox Services, is an open platform that connects data from your Box account with other applications and services across the web.  Pre-built into your box account are a host of services that you can make available, with one click.

Once the web service has been added, you can now right click on any of your files to access the 3rd party service.

Here is an example of some of the OpenBox Services:

  • Zoho - an online productivity suite, that allows you to edit documents and spreadsheets from within your web browser

  • eFax - fax any document directly from your box account

  • Concept Share - collaborate on your designs

  • EchoSign - get your documents signed electronically over the web

  • iPaper - preview any of your Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF files directly within your browser

  • Autodesk Freewheel - dynamically renders DWF file data and graphics information, allowing you to view CAD files (2D and 3D) in your browser.

A article by techcrunch on the OpenBox services, describes as follows:

"will enable web developers to create “service actions” on Box.net that allow users to easily load their files into 3rd-party web applications. These service actions will also permit users to transfer their files back to Box.net once they have been edited elsewhere. OpenBox is therefore meant to help transform Box.net into an online file system where users can store the data they want to load into various applications on the web."
